Psyllium husks are known to assist with the cleansing of the large intestine by helping to remove putrefactive toxins and helping to regulate effective bowel movements i.e. alleviate constipation. Psyllium husks absorb fluid within the digestive tract, helping to "bulk-out" the stool, reducing the density of faeces, and so making the muscular contractions of the bowel more effective in propelling matter through. Pectin helps to break down the build up of mucus and binds to various toxic metals - mercury, lead etc. Pectin is also another good source of fibre. It has the ability to form a gel which can bind water and toxins together, thus also bulking the stool and carrying the toxins out of the body.
